We are pleased to announce that the Surrey Vegan Fair will again be supporting Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary which is run by the amazing Fiona Oakes and her partner Martin. Fiona is the fastest woman to run a marathon on every continent plus the North Pole. Fiona has been vegan all her adult life, and runs to prove that veganism is not prohibitive to performance. Fiona has just completed her 3rd Marathon des Sables, the world's toughest footrace, despite illness and several other setbacks in the lead up to the race. Keegan Kuhn, one of the team behind "Cowspiracy" and "What the Health" is making a film of Fiona's life and accompanied her on the Marathon des Sables to capture her amazing performance. Apparently the footage is "epic" and some of the best he has captured.
Tower Hill Stables Animal Sanctuary is home to over 400 rescued animals, which Fiona and Martin care for relying on donations from the public. Their feed bill alone is over £8,000 per month! Once you add in vets' bills and other running costs you can see that they have to find a significant sum each month. We will be donating as proportion of the proceeds to the sanctuary and there will be collecting boxes to enable you to give a donation. To find out more about Fiona the film, Fiona Oakes, - For the Animals, tells Fiona's inspirational story and how she is motivated to undertake superhuman feats to raise awareness of the sanctuary and the plight of animals everywhere.
